Abstract

For over 80 years the Spanish Crown managed to protect their interests by preventing the actual number of the Spanishheld mines “Real de Minas” in New Spain from appearing on maps published in Europe. The strategy worked untilsome of the people who were responsible for this ‘State Secret’ began to spread information about the location ofthese deposits that had contributed so much to the royal treasury.
