The Concept of Heritage according to the Historiography in Santander Province, Colombia

Historiography allows knowing the path gone by the Heritage concept as well as its transformation over the time. Based on three historiographical cases, this article links together the work developed by the scholar Horacio Rodríguez Plata, the new study perspectives implemented in the History School of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), and the contribution by the historian Armando Martínez Garnica, who defines the concept of santandereanidad [native to Santander]. The productive areas in the Santander Province, Colombia, have been the background supporting the current tourism boom in this region of Socorro in this Province. Recognizing ourselves as members of a society and participants in the recovery of the memory and traditions is leading us to a reflective analysis intended to know the origins of the heritage transformation based on a memory object until becoming a tourism attraction in the Santander Province. The reflective analysis proposed herein allows showing the changes that took place both in the collective imagery and in the spatiality formed by the landscape and the geography as constructs in which the man is a part, and so he either preserves, transform or disrupt them according to his perception of reality. The concern about the cultural heritage should make the man to remember the glories of past times, to preserve the heritage in the present and to consolidate the memories for the future.
